Five fish. One line. A city after dark.
Five brightly coloured fish hang from a single line against deep navy, each one catching the light like a neon sign after dark. It’s the quiet harbour and the late-night city in one frame: the day’s catch and the glow of the streets, side by side.
Painted with loose, feeling-led brushstrokes, the colour glows against the inky background and the rhythm of the line pulls your eye across the canvas. Each fish has its own personality, and the longer you look, the more you notice how they play off one another.
Fish on a line is a sight I grew up around, and I’ve always loved it. Here I wanted to take that familiar coastal scene and give it a bolder, more contemporary edge, the kind of energy you’d find in a city at night.
One of three paintings in the After Dark collection, three ocean creatures with one electric energy, this is the most playful piece in the trio. It’s a statement for walls that want colour with character, where coastal calm meets urban attitude.
